I am so thankful to not have a repeat of last year’s winter. Last year, the winter of 2011-2012, Michigan had the mildest winter in history. We had record low snowfall, record high temperatures, and record early spring.
While I enjoyed the lack of snow, the effect on Michigan’s economy was devastating. The state had horrible fruit crops. Michigan, specifically western and northern, are huge exporters of apples, blueberries, and cherries. Many of our orchards weren’t even open for picking season. They had to import apples to make cider which made it super expensive. I only bought one half gallon last fall, and I paid $8. To put some perspective, usually I can buy a gallon for $4-$5 in a normal year. I hate to say it, but it wasn’t even good. What a waste of money!
We have gotten 3-6 inches every night for the last two weeks. Even though I hate driving in the snow, it was a welcome sight!
I tried to take some pictures on our evening walk, but dusk was coming quickly. The shots aren’t the greatest, but the snow is so pretty.
The pooch enjoying sniffing the snow. He is super curious every time the snow plows move the piles in his “bathroom.” He spends a couple minutes each morning assessing the new landscape.
I hope you are enjoying the winter too!

Nice! We are having another super-mild winter. We had an ice storm yesterday. It is supposed to make it to 60 tomorrow followed by cold and snow on Wednesday.
