The Best Time Saving Kitchen Tip for Moms | Disposable Kitchen Gloves

April 17, 2019 by Emily 2 Comments

Welcome to Flawed yet Functional! I am Emily Stauch, and I am using the Autoimmune Protocol to control my blood sugar and overall health as a Type 1 Diabetic. (Get to know me more here!) You know what that means, right? I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen! A deep thinker at heart, I’m always looking for ways to spend less time in the kitchen. I want to spend time with my kids too! In the last two weeks, I’ve had a light bulb moment for a little kitchen tool that I’d love to share with you: use disposable plastic kitchen gloves for all the things. It will save your sanity (and your hands) as a mom with young kids!

Why Use Gloves in the Kitchen

My mother-in-law first introduced me to disposable plastic kitchen gloves. The first pack she gave me just after my oldest was born. They came with a sad tale of a mom who was mincing spicy peppers and had to stop to change a diaper.

You know where this is going, right?

Poor baby! Burning and screaming for a LONG time when the oil from the spicy pepper got on their bottom. Oh man, I feel for that child! (Note: Should this happen to you or your child, lather the affected area in dairy products: milk, cream, yogurt, anything. Let them sit in a tub of it if it gets on their bottom. Dairy brings the best relief!)

So…my mother-in-law did not want this happening to her grandson, so she cautioned me to always wear gloves when working with spicy peppers.

How to Use Gloves in the Kitchen

While it is very important to protect your hands from the oil in spicy peppers, I’ve greatly expanded my use of these handy gloves. As a mom with young kids, you KNOW the moment you begin to cook a child will need:

  • Their nose wiped
  • A bottom cleaned
  • Skinny Legos taken apart
  • Fighting match refereed

You know the situations!

The beauty of these gloves is you can take them off in an instant. Lay them on whatever you were cutting, mixing, or shaping. Deal with the situation and return to the kitchen put the gloves on and continue.

Disposable plastic kitchen gloves save so much precious time by keeping your hands clean.

Bonus benefit: I struggle so much with dry hands in the winter, so these gloves save me a few hand washings throughout the day!

Recipes to Use Gloves

As I mentioned above, I began using gloves only when chopping or removing seeds from spicy peppers. So when I stopped eating nightshades a year ago, my gloves just sat in the cupboard collecting dust.

UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO!

The light bulb clicked on and my eyes were opened to the many uses of disposable kitchen gloves:

  • Wear them when handling raw bacon.
  • Mix meatloaf or meatballs with your hands safely covered.
  • Shape breakfast sausage patties with them.
  • Breading pork chops…what a messy job!

If there’s a job that will make your hands messy and you might need to quickly deal with something that would require clean hands, use these kitchen gloves!

Seriously, they are very cost effective and have saved me (and my children) much frustration!

If you are in the weeds of child rearing, like me, give this simple kitchen trick a try! Disposable plastic kitchen gloves are a great time and hand saver for anyone working in the kitchen!

Disposable gloves are a life saver, trust me. My mother never cooked meat as she hates to touch the meat but since she started wearing gloves, now she can easily cook meat for all of us!
