Happy Thanksgiving!

November 21, 2018 by Emily Leave a Comment

Thanks for dropping in to see what’s new at Flawed yet Functional today! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving day, and I am madly working to prepare my contributions for the buffet line! To make the most of my family-time this weekend, I am taking a break from blogging until Monday, November 26. Today I leave you with some thoughts and articles I’ve stumbled on lately that I liked. My prayer for you is that you are able to take a breather from normal life this week, spend some time with loved ones, and connect over good food and drinks. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Thanksgiving Dinner

First up, let’s talk about my contribution to Thanksgiving dinner. This year my family is getting together with my extended family. We do dinner potluck style with really no guidelines other than the turkey is provided by my parents. Here are my AIP or Paleo-friendly items I will be bringing:

  • Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic Glaze
  • Paleo Raspberry Crumb Bars
  • Bacon Wrapped Dates

Curly Girl Hair Care

I’ve mentioned on social media a few times that my hair has been turning curly since I changed my diet one year ago. My first attempt at the Autoimmune Protocol in October 2017 started a massive shedding of my hair, and the new stuff is curly. I’ve had large areas of regrowth from my AVM surgery, but the hair always straightened out after it grew a few inches. This time? It appears to be staying curly! Crazy town! I’m reading up on how to manage my new ‘do.

  • Squish to Condish
  • Conditioners, styling gels, special towels???
  • How to Plop

I have so much to learn!

Gut Health

I’m experimenting on myself with a 16:8 intermittent fast to see if I can manage my blood sugar better while in a healing period after I’ve been exposed to one of my food sensitivities. Read more on what I’m doing here. Most days it is working great with no odd cravings or hunger, but two of the days I’ve been ravenous and made poor decisions trying to tame the hunger. I think my nutrient density is off some days; I’m working through my food journal to try to figure this out. In the meantime, I’ve found some other interesting articles on gut health for you to check out…

Master Bedroom Refresh

Since setting up our new {old} bed, I’m itching to paint and re-decorate! On my mind lately is adding wall-mounted, swing arm lamps to either side of the bed. I just love the looks of these!

  • Waucoba 1-Light Swing Arm Lamp
  • Brass Nook Pivoting Wall Sconce
  • YOUNG HOUSE LOVE DAPPER ADJUSTABLE ARM WALL SCONCE

That about sums it up. My mind is going in all directions at all times! What is on your mind lately? Are you traveling to visit family or friends this holiday? Do you host the gathering? Are you squeezing in a bunch of projects this long weekend? No matter your plans, I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing holiday with your loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!
